Performance of Deep Tech startups

The dashboard compares the economic performance of more than 8 000 selected European startups listed in the EPO’s Deep Tech Finder (DTF) against a benchmark group of some 280 000 European startups with similar country, age and industry profiles. To be part of the DTF, a European startup must have at least one published European patent application or granted European patent.

The analysis covers a five-year period (2020–2024) and uses key economic indicators such as total funding raised, number of funding deals, employment growth, and exits. In addition, the indicators funding intensity, funding premium, deal frequency, job creation rate, and exit rate can be compared between the two groups, namely startups with and without European patent applications.

Users can explore how these metrics vary across countries and industries using interactive filters and examine detailed breakdowns of each indicator. The dashboard is updated on an annual basis. For more details on the methodology see the FAQ.
